Mixing Stage 2 (Final)

Vocals and Background Vocals

Firstly, I panned the lead vocals towards the centre and I panned the harmonies left and right using the stereo pan. For all of the vocal tracks I have added the EQ for both the lead and the harmonies. The EQ for the lead has a slight boost in the 300Hz, 2000Hz and 9000Hz range and for the harmonies I decreased the it slightly in the 2000Hz and boost a little in the 5000Hz range. I have added the compressor for each audio track to make the vocals thick and glue it all together. Furthermore, I added reverb (Space Designer) to an aux track by bussing it to bus 4 to have a better control of the reverb, with the send level of -18 and harmonies at the level of -17.8. Besides that, I have added the Ensemble plug in for all of my vocal tracks by bussing to bus 5, with the settings of 8 voices, stereo spread at 125% and the output mix at a 100% to thicken the vocals even more. Lastly, I bussed out the delay(Stereo Delay) to bus 6 for the lead and one of the ad-libs harmony. I set the left delay at 1/8 note and the right at 1/4 note, setting both feedback at 12%, low cut and high cut in the range of 100Hz - 2100Hz and the output mix at 100%.

Piano and Strings

For the piano and strings I have added EQ for each track and only bussed the piano to Bus 3 to add reverb (Space Designer) using the soft plate.

Bus 3

Guitars and Bass

I bussed the guitars to bus 5 (Ensemble plug in) to thicken the guitars up with the send volume at -25.5. For my bass, I just tighten up the panning on the stereo pan.

Drums and Percussions

For my drums and percussions, I added the Reverb (Space Designer) on an aux track and bus the drums and percussions to bus 2. I changed the length to 688ms and used the drum plate preset.

Pads, Synth and Fx

For my pads, synth and fx, I added EQ, Stereo Spread and reverb (Space Designer) for the pads and synths in each track and added an extra plug-in(Tremolo) to a bass synth. For the fx, I only added the channel EQ.

Submixes and Automation

I have added five submixes to mix them as a group by bussing them from bus 7 - 11. I added compression (vintage opto) to tighten the vocals and deeser to the vocal mix, linear EQ on the piano and strings, Exciter and Linear EQ on the guitar and bass to tighten up the mix more and Multipressor on the drums with a little boost in the 100Hz - 2000Hz range. I added automation to the vocals to control the peaks. I also added an EQ in the stereo output to make the overall audio more present with the gain at -2.
